Aave BAT v1 is an interest-bearing token minted upon deposit and burned when redeemed. It is pegged 1:1 to the value of the underlying BAT (Basic Attention Token) deposited in the Aave protocol. This pegging allows users to earn interest on their deposited BAT tokens while participating in Aave's decentralised finance ecosystem.
Aave BAT v1 operates by allowing users to deposit BAT tokens into the Aave protocol. Upon deposit, Aave mints an equivalent amount of Aave BAT v1 tokens that represent the user's lending balance. These tokens are interest-bearing, meaning they accrue interest over time as the deposited BAT is utilised in the protocol's lending operations. When users wish to withdraw their original BAT, the Aave BAT v1 tokens are burned, and the accumulated interest is realised.
Aave BAT v1 can be utilised in various decentralised finance (DeFi) applications:
Aave BAT v1 is part of the Aave protocol, a significant player in the DeFi space. Aave was initially launched as ETHLend by Stani Kulechov in 2017 and rebranded to Aave in 2018. The first version of Aave, which included Aave BAT v1, was launched in 2020. This marked the evolution from a peer-to-peer lending service to a more versatile pooled structure, allowing for efficient liquidity management and the introduction of innovative features like flash loans and decentralised governance. Over time, Aave has grown to become one of the leading DeFi lending platforms with significant market presence and technical advancements.
