What is BAT?

Basic Attention Token (BAT) is a digital advertising token that runs on the Ethereum blockchain. BAT measures a user’s attention while they interact with advertisements, and compensates both the users and publishers. To make attention tracking possible, the BAT platform integrates with the Brave Browser which is developed by the BAT team. The Brave browser is built with the goal of delivering advanced privacy and speed to its users. This achieves a balanced revenue sharing between participants. The BAT ecosystem is designed as a decentralised, open-source system. It is used by advertisers, publishers and other users who want to bypass intermediaries for modern-day digital advertising. The BAT project was launched in response to what are seen as the monopoly of large advertising businesses.
