What is BTT?

BTT is the cryptocurrency for BitTorrent, a peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing platform that has gained popularity since its inception in 2001. BitTorrent was purchased by the blockchain platform TRON in July 2018. Originally invented by Bram Cohen, BitTorrent was developed to disrupt the entertainment industry. The legacy entertainment industry and distribution of media is seen as expensive and inefficient, and the benefit of BTT is to allow Internet users to distribute content among themselves directly, in a P2P fashion. Since its acquisition, the BTT token was launched on TRON’s own blockchain, using the TRC10 standard. BTT plays various roles and has a number of benefits, including allowing its holders to pay others for faster downloads with BitTorrent.
