GMT, or Green Metaverse Token, is the governance token of the STEPN platform. STEPN is a Move-to-Earn (M2E) application that rewards users for engaging in physical activities such as walking and running.
GMT operates on the Solana blockchain, leveraging its high-speed, low-cost functionalities. It serves as a governance token, allowing users to participate in platform voting and decision-making. GMT is also used within the STEPN platform for tasks such as leveling up sneaker sets, accessing premium content, and enhancing the chances of obtaining rare items. Additionally, GMT can be swapped for USDC stablecoins once certain conditions, like a sneaker reaching level 30, are met.
GMT was launched by Jerry Huang and Yawn Rong, co-founders of the company FindSatoshi Lab, in late 2021. The token saw a significant increase in value in early 2022. However, it also experienced volatility in user activity and token price during subsequent months. Significant developments for GMT include its integration with eco-friendly projects and community engagement initiatives, as well as being listed on multiple cryptocurrency exchanges. Throughout its history, GMT has aimed to promote both a healthy, active lifestyle and environmental sustainability.
