Liquity USD (LUSD) is a USD-pegged stablecoin used within the Liquity protocol. It is designed to provide interest-free loans secured by Ether collateral and can be redeemed against the underlying collateral at face value. As an ERC-20 token, it operates on the Ethereum blockchain, making use of its secure infrastructure.
LUSD functions through the Liquity protocol, offering interest-free loans in exchange for ETH as collateral. Users must maintain a minimum collateral ratio of 110%, and the loans are managed algorithmically, free from traditional governance. The system also includes a Stability Pool where users can deposit LUSD to earn rewards in ETH and LQTY, contributing to the stability of the protocol.
Liquity USD serves several key purposes:
Liquity USD was launched on 5th April 2021 by the Liquity protocol. The protocol was founded in December 2019 and quickly gained traction with substantial funding rounds and partnerships. Since its launch, Liquity USD has shown significant growth, with integrations into various DeFi platforms and developments such as Liquity V2, which introduced new features and expanded its use cases. The protocol’s governance-free, decentralized structure, and stable value against the US dollar contribute to its appeal and adoption in the crypto ecosystem.
