rLiquidity USD (rLUSD) is a US dollar-pegged stablecoin issued on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), designed to facilitate fast, low-cost, and secure digital payments. As a stable digital asset, rLUSD provides price stability and liquidity within the XRPL ecosystem, supporting applications in decentralised finance (DeFi), cross-border payments, and real-time value transfer.
rLUSD operates on the XRP Ledger, utilising the Ripple Protocol Consensus Algorithm (RPCA) for high-speed, energy-efficient transaction validation. Settlements occur in 3–5 seconds with minimal fees, making it ideal for scalable payment and trading applications. rLUSD maintains a 1:1 peg with the US dollar and integrates directly with XRPL’s decentralised exchange (DEX) and liquidity tools. While XRPL’s native smart contract functionality is limited, programmable features are expanding through XRPL Hooks, enhancing rLUSD’s role in on-chain applications.
rLUSD supports a broad range of use cases across payments and decentralised finance. These include low-cost remittances and cross-border transactions, stablecoin trading on XRPL’s DEX, and liquidity provision across XRPL markets. It also enables micropayments and streaming payments thanks to XRPL’s low transaction costs. Additionally, rLUSD serves as a digital dollar for the tokenisation of fiat assets and integration with emerging XRPL-based DeFi platforms.
rLiquidity USD was introduced to meet the growing demand for stablecoins within the XRP Ledger ecosystem. It leverages over a decade of XRPL infrastructure and aims to support the network’s evolution into a hub for tokenised assets and decentralised financial applications. Key milestones include the development of XRPL stablecoin standards, exchange listings, and integration with liquidity pools. As XRPL expands its smart contract functionality through Hooks, rLUSD continues to play a critical role in enabling stable, scalable financial services on-chain.
