Sarcophagus is an autonomous, incentivized dead man's switch decentralised application (dApp) that operates on the Ethereum and Arweave blockchains. It is designed to provide a secure and decentralised method for long-term storage and recovery of sensitive information. Sarcophagus is open-source, decentralised, and governed by a Decentralised Autonomous Organization (DAO).
Sarcophagus works as a decentralised dead man's switch by utilising Ethereum and Arweave blockchain technologies. It employs smart contracts to manage this functionality, allowing users to set customizable intervals for information recovery. The system ensures secure and transparent processes by requiring users to interact with the network regularly. If a user ceases communication, the stored data becomes accessible. The proof of stake (PoS) model is used for running Archeologist nodes, which involves staking SARCO tokens.
Sarcophagus has several potential use cases, including:
Sarcophagus was founded by Zach Hamilton and Olivia LaRocca. The project began as a decentralised dead man's switch dApp built on Ethereum and Arweave. Notable milestones include the integration with Arweave for permanent file storage, introduction of the SARCO token, and implementation of governance through DAO tools. The project is currently decentralised, open-source, and DAO-owned and operated, with a self-reported circulating supply of 39.26 million SARCO tokens out of a total supply of 100 million.
