What is IOST?

IOST is the native cryptocurrency of the IOST blockchain platform, that aims to be a highly scalable protocol which uses its own consensus algorithm, proof-of-believability. Proof-of-believability is a method of determining the credibility of a note, based on its behaviour and previous contributions. Currently, the platform can handle up to 8,000 transactions per second and has more than 400 nodes in the ecosystem. IOST is developer-friendly, as it is uses the widely used Javascript language. The goal of the protocol is to boost decentralised alternatives to popular centralised applications we use today, such as Facebook and Amazon.
