What is QTUM?

The QTUM token is the gas token for transactions on the Qtum blockchain. Qtum Foundation Ltd is the company behind the blockchain which was founded in 2016. The blockchain has taken inspiration from Ethereum and Bitcoin to create both a smart contract blockchain platform and a value transfer protocol. The inspiration from these two previous projects is evident with the protocol being backwards compatible with Ethereum contracts and Bitcoin gateways to this date. The project's goal is to have businesses becoming their user base. The network has one of the largest collections of nodes in the world, making it one of the most open and decentralised projects.
