Perpetual Protocol is a decentralised finance (DeFi) platform that allows users to trade cryptocurrencies with leverage via perpetual futures contracts on the Ethereum blockchain.
Perpetual Protocol uses an automated market maker (AMM) to provide liquidity and execute trades. It allows users to go long or short on various assets with leverage by utilising a virtual automated market maker (vAMM) to facilitate trades, enabling leverage and short positions.
Potential use cases for Perpetual Protocol include trading perpetual swaps, hedging against price fluctuations, providing liquidity to the platform, and engaging in yield farming, primarily in the decentralised finance (DeFi) sector.
Perpetual Protocol was co-founded by Yenwen Feng and Shao-Kang Lee in 2020. It was initially named Strike Protocol and part of the Binance incubator. The project's first version was released in 2020, with significant growth and updates, including a second version called Curie launched on the Optimism network in 2021, which enhanced the original model.
